2006 – April: 1400 Km Ride to Bali

Day 1: Jakarta – Baturaden

5 Multistrada 1000DS, 1 ST3, 1 ST4, 1 Monster S4R, 1 Monster 620 and 1 SS 900 (+ 1 SBK 999 joined the team later in Bali) a total of 10 (+1) Ducati bikes participated in the event called Ducati Challenge 2006. It was a ride from Jakarta to Bali of more than 1400 Km, divided into several trips from April 8 to 15, 2006.Started very early morning from Jakarta is the only option to get away from a very heavy traffic in Jakarta and it surrounding regions. We get together at 4.00 a.m. and start from Jakarta at 4.30 a.m. It was still dark:

We managed to get out from Jakarta on time and start enjoying the ride in the country side and have the first break at Cikampek area, at which we had our breakfast:

We then continue the ride trough a north side road of Java up to Cirebon and just before Brebes (small city) went down south to Purwokerto City which is already in the Central Java Province.
Have a second short break after Cirebon City:
We managed to cross a bridge under reparation which was closed for cars but still ok for bikes.
We then went straight to Baturaden a mountain rest area and arrived about 1.30 p.m. This was our first day trip and we spent the night at Baturaden.
Day 2 : Baturaden – JogjakartaThis trip was not too far and quite relax ride. After breakfast and check out from the hotel, we get ready to move from Baturaden to Jogjakarta.Start moving from Baturaden at 9.30 a.m:
Have a short break in the middle trip at a local restaurant:
Entering the city from south direction of Jogjakarta (beach and Wonosari area), we arrived at Jogjakarta about mid day, and have a fresh cool drink at the Hotel:Day 2 was a relaxing day; had a nice dinner at a Javanese restaurant and  get ready for another long ride tomorrow. Day 3: Jogjakarta – MalangAnticipating a long ride, we prefer to start early to get fresh air and a lower traffic level in Jogjakarta and Solo. Get ready and start at 6.30 a.m. from Jogjakarta:
After passing a very steep twisty foggy road in Purwantoro area we took a short break at a Purwantoro high land:
Continue the trip to Malang:
We stoped for a while to wear the rain suit anticipating a heavy rain in Batu mountain area:Riding in a heavy rain up to Malang, we entered into Malang City in float on its main streets. Not comfortable to wait longer, we decided to cross the float (about 50 Cm) by putting each Multistrada in front of a lower bike (other type) so the Multi can break the water for the bike behind, we finally ride in the float and reach the hotel safely but in a really wet condition. Hm… I could say that my choice of Multi is correct for Indonesian road, where you could not expect to always ride in a smooth asphalt road and some time has to cross the float. Higher bike of Multi definitely helps a lot…Due to a quite danger riding area in Purwantoro mountain area and heavy rain and float on which we could not ride fast, we finally arrived in the Hotel in Malang at 4.00 p.m.Every body was tired and after dinner took a good rest, preparing for a longer ride to Bali tomorrow.
Day 4: Malang – Kuta Beach (Bali)Good weather in the morning helps increasing the mood for a nice ride today. We get ready to start from Malang:
Started at 6.30 a.m. we pass historical building in Malang city :
Somewere close to Pesantren Gontor (Islamic School), we were stuck by road blocking due to the security consideration before the Vice President and his group passed this area on their way to visit Pesantren Gontor. Well we have to be patient to give a way for the Second Man in this Republic, I guess…. (*Uh.. it was a hot hot wheather….):Have a short break in a mountain area before Dampit:
Stop for a photo break at a bridge in the forest before Dampit:
Iwan & Wina:Lina & Wina:Arriving at Ketapang (a Ferry Port in Java Island) to cross Bali Strait to Gilimanuk (the destination Ferry Port in Bali Island) about mid day, we prefer to have a lunch in Ketapang before crossing to Bali. We enjoyed tasty sea foods in a  quite good restaurant in the sea side in Ketapang and rush to cross to Bali by small Ferry:
Arrived in Gilimanuk Ferry Port in Bali:We continued the ride for about 2,5 hour to Kuta Beach. Kuta area was very crowded and we have to get a way from the traffic jam. We finally arrived at our Hotel in Kuta beach at 5.30 p.m. Welcome to the Paradise Island, Bali:
Day 5: in BaliEnjoying wake up late was a very enjoyable thing after a long and tiring ride yesterday. We could smell the beach air and hear the wave where many people usually enjoy surfing:
Have a relax ride for lunch at Warung Wardhani (a famous local restaurant) in Denpasar Bali:
Day 6: Riding in BaliToday, we ride to Kintamani Lake in the middle-north Bali via Candi Dasa. Ok, get ready guys..Had a coffee break and refreshment at a beach view reataurant Candi Dasa.We then continued the trip to Kintamani:Riding in a foggy forest after the rain on the way down to Ubud, Bali:
Fresh mountain air:Just before ubud we were stuck in a traffic jam because of a long parade of Hindu’s Religious Ceremonial. We watched them and they watched us:

Due to the several stops along the way, we arrived a bit late in Ubud for lunch. Hm.. we had a delicious and yummy crispy fried duck in Ubud, Bali:

Riding back home to our hotel in Kuta from Ubud:

Day 7: Ride to UluwatuThis morning was light raining. That was ok. We decided to ride to Uluwatu (east Bali):Have a party and invited Bali’s bikers for a bikers gathering at Nusa Dua area in the evening:Day 8 (last day): Loading the bikes and return to Jakarta by airMost of the participants have returned to Jakarta by morning flight but some others still need to make sure the bikes were loaded properly into the truck to be sent back home to Jakarta (by land on such truck container).Be in Jakarta after 1,5 hours flight from Denpasar Bali, we have to get back to the real life… back to work as usual…  Sad Smile
The end.
